What to Expect

Join us as we photograph St. John’s which is the oldest city in North America. During this workshop, we will visit Jelly Bean Row houses where you can capture all the brilliant colours of downtown St. John’s. Each street in historic St. John’s has a unique character and provides great photographic opportunities. A local professional photographer will also show you behind-the-scenes photo locations. You will be guided to the most scenic areas while listening to a little history lesson on Jelly Bean Row.

During our trip, we will also visit the South Side Hills where you can capture pictures of The Battery, which is a favourite for photographers. From here we can explore Fort Amherst and get some great pictures of the old lighthouse that greets passengers as they enter St. John’s harbour.

No trip would be complete without photographing the most easterly location in North America. At Cape Spear we can photograph the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland; the location is designated a National Historic Site of Canada. The original lighthouse building and the lightkeeper’s residence have been restored to the period of 1839. If you are an early riser we can be there to catch the sunrise, which will be something that will stay with you forever.

Fishing villages provide great photo opportunities during your time in Newfoundland. We will visit Quidi Vidi where you will be able to photograph fishing boats and old fishing stages and become immersed in the Newfoundland culture. In busy Petty Harbour, small fishing boats come and go, allowing for more great photos.

To end a great day of photography, we will visit Signal Hill at sunset where we can capture light trails, Cabot Tower and a panorama of St. John’s harbour. Our local professional photographer will be there to help with any photography questions and provide local location tips.

The next three days of photography will take you to the Bonavista Peninsula driving from St. John’s. During these three days, we will travel to various inlets, coves and harbours to locate icebergs. We will also visit the picturesque community of Elliston where we will visit the puffin colony. Here we will offer tips on how to get up close to get those award-winning pictures.

During this adventure, we will be traveling the northeast coast of Newfoundland locating icebergs to capture some awesome images. On our journey to Bonavista, we may take a detour to see icebergs if there are any nearby. The scenic northeast coast provides great opportunities to take stunning pictures of the dramatic cliffs and seascapes.

We will also stop in Trinity on the way to Bonavista where we will have an opportunity to photograph an old fishing community. Trinity had abundant room for the ships of the day and shores well suited for outbuildings, wharves and fish-flakes. Historically, Trinity was an ideal location for the early migratory fishery. While in Trinity you can photograph the old architecture such as fishing stages and colorful houses.

This tour guarantees amazing Newfoundland scenery,! However icebergs, whales, and puffins are visitors to the island and while these tours are offered during peak season, we cannot guarantee to see all three. During our two days we will travel and do everything possible to find these visitors. Again, all workshops are custom to the client’s needs.

If you would like to get closer to icebergs and whales, a Zodiac boat tour is an option. A boat trip on the North Atlantic is always different with so many things to offer – not just whales, and icebergs, but dramatic scenery and other wildlife as well. The best way to capture award-winning iceberg and wildlife images is from a Zodiac adventure. All workshops are custom to the client’s needs.
